Health Services at McMaster

Healthcare at McMaster is covered by two student services, the Campus Health Centre and the Health and Wellness Centre. Both are located in the basement of the Student Centre; Campus Health in room B101, and Health and Wellness in B106. To reach Health and Wellness, dial extension 27619, while to reach Campus Health dial extension 27700. Additional information on both services can be found at http://www.mcmaster.ca/health/

Campus Health
The goal of Campus Health is to enhance student success by provided the highest level of healthcare to McMaster students throughout the year. Whether it is a health emergency, a nutrition concern, the flu, a question about sexuality, or other issues, all of your needs can be met at Campus Health. Services are provided by appointment, and urgent issues are addressed as needed.

Campus Health Offers the Following Services:
- medical assessments and treatment of illness or injury
- annual health exams
- dressing changes
- medical tests at on onsite lab
- allergy injections and immunizations
- health education and resources
- sports medicine
- psychiatrist

Some Related Services of Campus Health Include:
- sexual decision making
- low cost of birth control products
- screening for STI’s
- HIV prevention, screening, and counseling
- referrals for stress, depression or other personal problems
- birth control counseling
- pregnancy testing
- emergency contraception available onsite
- smoking cessation

Access to the Following Services Not Covered by OHIP or UHIP:
- reflexology
- hot stone massage
- reiki
- meditation
- dietician service

Health and Wellness Centre
The health education program offered through Health and Wellness includes immunization clinics, topical workshops, awareness tables, poster campaigns, bulletin boards, and additional resources available in the Health and Wellness Centre.

Health and Wellness has a large lending library of books, videos, references and self-help materials, and in addition can assist students with academic and personal learning needs. They publish the Health Talk @ MAC newsletter, which is found in various locations around campus. Registered Nurses are available for consultations. Peer Health Educators, Health and Wellness’ student volunteers deliver most of the education programs on campus.

Health and Wellness focuses on the following student issues:
- disease prevention
- relationships
- sexuality
- contraception options
- nutrition and body image
- alcohol and drugs
- fitness
- stress management
- smoking
